On July 9, 2010 at 8:07 P.M. Lincoln County Fire Protection District #1 was dispatched to 2579 Trojan Circle for a reported structure fire. On arrival, firefighters found the two-car garage and attic above fully involved with fire. Firefighters attacked the fire with a truck mounted deck gun which flows water at 1,000 gallons per minute. The main fire was knocked down in a matter of just a few seconds.

Two 14 year old boys were home at the time of the fire and escaped unharmed. The boys were watching a movie inside the home when one heard a loud popping sound coming from the garage. The pair went to investigate and found the fire when they opened the garage door from the house.

Firefighters rescued several family pets from heavy smoke conditions in the residence. The family’s dog, snake and bird all appeared to be in good health.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Lincoln County Fire Protection District #1 recently conducted a survey where residents were asked to rate district performance and offer opinions regarding services. 287 residents completed the survey.

Overall, the survey results were very positive. Nearly 80% of those surveyed feel the Fire District does an “excellent or good” job in regard to professionalism, customer service, fiscal responsibility, service provided as well as their overall impression of the district.

Also, the fire district has recently started an “Emergency Response Survey” where residents who’ve needed firefighters to respond to an emergency are surveyed regarding the on-scene performance of personnel. Residents are asked to rate the fire district and personnel on timely arrival, professionalism, knowledge, competence, effectiveness, treatment received and overall impression of the fire district. To date, the results show 100% of those surveyed feel the fire district and personnel do an “excellent or good” job.

Lincoln County Fire Protection District #1 thanks all residents who took the survey. The time and effort spent to complete the survey has provided the fire district with a tool that will be used for improvement and continued service excellence.

On Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 4:13 A.M. Lincoln County Fire Protection District #1 responded to Camp Tuckaho at 163 Highway KK for a structure fire. On arrival, firefighters found the camp’s main pool house fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters worked for over two hours to extinguish the 3,000 square foot facility which housed locker rooms and showers for the camp, owned by Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, Inc. Firefighting water was supplied by the camp’s swimming pool.

The majority of the camp residents, including Girl Scouts and staff were asleep in separate buildings at the time of the fire. Campers were not in any danger as the occupied buildings were several hundred feet from the fire. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and believed to be electrical.
